The government has launched (very quietly) a new consultation on increasing licensing fees for prohibited weapons, museum collections and approved shooting clubs. From the few who are aware of the proposal the reaction is fairly unified, not my shotgun or firearms certificate, why should I bother? Well as firearms uk says, “…an attack on one section of us is an attack on our entire community.” Not my choice of words, but the sentiment is there, if you allow one section of the shooting community to be sacrificed, who will be there when they decide it’s your turn. This sort of thinking was prevalent back in 1997 with the revised pistol laws, I don’t shoot pistol, so it’s not my fight! And look how that turned out.
